Chemistry can feel overwhelming when you're looking at the entire course. Breaking it into smaller areas makes revision much more manageable.
Understand Before You Memorise — start by understanding the concept. Once you understand what's happening, definitions, equations and reactions become much easier to remember.
Practise Calculations Regularly — don't wait until exam season to practise calculations. Include a few calculation questions in your weekly Chemistry revision.
Learn Your Experiments — create concise revision sheets for each important experiment, covering apparatus, method, observations, calculations and precautions.
Use Active Recall — close your notes and try to explain a topic from memory, which is far more effective than repeatedly reading the same page.
Complete Exam Questions — after revising a topic, immediately attempt a relevant past exam question to see whether you can actually apply what you've learned.
Review Your Mistakes — don't simply mark an answer wrong and move on. Work out why you made the mistake so you don't repeat it.
Improving your Chemistry grade doesn't happen through one huge study session. Regular practice throughout the year helps you gradually improve your knowledge, calculations and exam technique. Leaving Cert Plus provides structured Chemistry resources to help you revise effectively and maximise your marks.
