With topics ranging from genetics and ecology to plants and the human body, Leaving Certificate Biology can feel like an enormous course. A simple weekly structure can make it much more manageable.
Monday — Cell Biology: revise a topic such as cell structure, cell division, enzymes, or diffusion and osmosis, then test yourself afterwards without your notes.
Tuesday — Human Biology: choose one human body system and focus on its structures, functions and important terminology.
Wednesday — Genetics & DNA: revise DNA, inheritance, genetic engineering, evolution or variation, and practise any relevant exam questions.
Thursday — Plants & Ecology: alternate between plant biology and ecology each week, using diagrams and examples to reinforce your understanding.
Friday — Experiments: choose one Biology experiment and revise its aim, apparatus, method, variables, results and conclusion.
Weekend — Exam Practice: complete a selection of past exam questions from the topics you've studied during the week, correcting your answers with the marking scheme.
Effective Biology study isn't about spending hours copying notes — testing yourself, practising questions and identifying gaps in your knowledge are far more effective. By breaking the course into smaller sections and regularly testing your knowledge, you can gradually build confidence before the exam. Leaving Cert Plus's Biology notes, videos, flashcards, exam questions and quizzes are designed to make that process easier.
