Chemistry requires a combination of understanding, memorisation, calculations and practical knowledge. A weekly study routine can help you cover each of these areas consistently.

Monday — Theory: choose one Chemistry topic and review the key concepts, then close your notes and explain what you've learned from memory.

Tuesday — Calculations: spend 30 minutes completing calculation questions, focusing on showing every step clearly.

Wednesday — Experiments: revise one experiment, making sure you understand the apparatus, procedure, observations and calculations rather than simply memorising the steps.

Thursday — Equations & Definitions: review important chemical equations and definitions, testing yourself without looking at your notes.

Friday — Exam Questions: choose a topic you've studied during the week and complete a past exam question on it.

Weekend — Review: correct your work using the marking scheme, and identify the topics or calculations that caused difficulty so you can revisit them.

You don't need to spend hours studying Chemistry every evening — short, focused and consistent revision sessions are far more effective. Leaving Certificate Chemistry rewards students who understand the concepts and can apply their knowledge accurately, and at Leaving Cert Plus, our Chemistry notes, videos, flashcards and quizzes are designed to make that revision more structured.
