HL Chemistry

The Leaving Certificate Chemistry examination takes place during the June Leaving Certificate examination period. The exact date and time are confirmed each year by the State Examinations Commission.

Leaving Certificate Chemistry covers atomic structure, chemical bonding, stoichiometry, acids and bases, organic chemistry, rates of reaction and chemical equilibrium, along with practical experimental work and calculations.

Chemistry can be challenging because students need to combine theory, calculations and experimental knowledge. Regular practice makes a significant difference, and students who understand the fundamentals can make strong progress.
